현 카이스트 전산학부 전임교수이자 문화기술대학원의 겸임교수. 관심 분야는 네트워크 과학, 빅데이터, 인공지능으로 계산학적 방법론으로 사회과학 문제를 다루는 융합연구. 카이스트 전산학과에서 2008년 박사 학위를 취득 후 독일 막스플랑크 연구소에서 박사후연구원으로 활동. 국제소셜정보학 학술대회에서 기조연설(EMNLP, NetSci-X, SocInfo), 국제소셜웹 학술대회 프로그램 조직위원장 (ICWSM)을 비롯하여 WWW, PeerJ, ACM Trans on Social Computing 등 논문심사위원과 편집위원, 세계관세기구(WCO)의 협력데이터 분석가, 국세청 빅데이터 자문위원, 관세청 빅데이터 자문위원, 국가지식재산위원회 특별전문위원회 활동. 2019 젊은정보과학자상 및 2020 AAAI ICWSM Test of Time Award를 수상. 미국 페이스북 데이터 사이언스 팀의 초빙교수로 2015년 근무 및 2019년부터는 기초과학연구원 데이터사이언스 그룹에 Chief Investigator로 겸직 중.

Professor Meeyoung Cha obtained her Ph.D. at KAIST in 2008. After working as a post-doctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems, she has been an associate professor at KAIST School of Computing and an adjunct professor at the Graduate School of Culture Technology.

Her fields of interest are data science and information science, emphasizing modeling socially-relevant information propagation processes. Her work on misinformation, poverty mapping, fraud detection, and long-tail content has gained more than 15,000 citations and received best paper awards at several conferences.

Professor Cha gave a keynote at EMNLP, NetSci-X, SocInfo, and has served as a program co-chair for ICWSM2015. She is currently on the editorial board of PeerJ and ACM Transactions on Social Computing. She is also a Big Data Advisor at the National Tax Service, the National Customs Service, and the World Customs Organization (WCO).

In 2015, she was invited to work at Facebook's Data Science Team as a Visiting Professor. She is a recipient of the Korean Young Information Scientist Award in 2019 and the AAAI ICWSM Test of Time Award in 2020. She is currently jointly affiliated as a Chief Investigator at the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) in Korea.
