1991년부터 현재까지 성균관대학교 아동,청소년학과 교수로 재직 중이며 2006년부터 인재개발학과, 그리고 2007년부터 법학대학원 교수도 겸직하고 있다. 2003년 유엔 아동권리위원회 위원으로 국제사회에서 아동의 권리 실현을 위해 활동하던 이양희교수는 2007년 한국인 최초로 위원장으로 선출될 후 2차례 역임한 후 현재 부위원장으로 활동하고 있다. 아동권리위원회 위원장 임기 중 2008년부터 아동권리협약 제 3 선택의정서 채택을 추진하여 2012년 마침내 유엔총회에 통과하는 데까지 결정적인 역할을 하였다. 2014년부터 한국인으로서 최초로 유엔인권이사회의에서 유엔 미얀마 특별보고관으로 임명되었다.

한국 아동권리학회 창설멤버인 이양희 교수는 국내외에서 아동 권리, 학대, 발달장애를 주제로 많은 학술논문을 발간하였으며, 2011년부터 SSCI에 등록된 Child Abuse & Neglect Journal의 편집위원으로 활동하고 있으며, 동 논문의 공동 객원위원장(Co-Guest Editor)을 세 번 역임하였으며, 현재 편집위원으로 활동하는 International Journal of Children’s Rights의 객원위원장을 맡은 바 있다. 또한 이양희교수는 2012년부터 국제 아동학대와 방임 예방학회(International Society for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect)에 집행이사회에 한국인으로 처음 선정되어 활동 중에 있다. 또한 African Child Policy Forum 에서도 한국인으로서는 처음 이사로 선정되어 2007년부터 활동 중이다.

이양희교수는 국내에서도 학계뿐 아니라 정부, 비정부 기관에서 두루 역할을 맡아 활동하고 있으며, 국제아동인권센터의 대표와 한국장애아동인권학회 학회장, 유니세프 한국위원회 집행이사, 여성가족부 정책자문위원회 위원, 보건복지부 아동정책포럼 위원장, 법무부 여성정책심의위원회 위원장, 대한변협 성폭력피해아동지원위원회 위원, 유엔인권정책센터 공동대표 등을 맡아서 활발하게 활동하고 있다. 2014년부터 민주평화통일자문회의 여성 부의장으로 활동 중이다.

2007년에 제 22회 올해의 여성상을 포함하여 성균가족대상을 수상하였고, 2009년에는 국제사회 아동권리를 보호하고 증진하는데 앞장 선 공로를 인정받아 국민훈장 석류장을 받았다. 또한 2011년에는 아동의 인권과 안녕을 위해 노력한 공로를 인정받아 효령상: 사회봉사부분을 수상하였다.

Professor Yanghee Lee has been a member of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child since 2003 and has served as its Chair from 2007-2011 and is currently serving as its Vice-Chair. She has been the guiding force in the drafting, negotiation, and adoption of the 3rd Optional Protocol on a Communications Procedure to the Convention on the Rights of the Child. A national of the Republic of Korea, Professor Lee currently holds joint appointments in the Law School; Department of Child Psychology and Education; and Department of Human Resources Development at Sungkyunkwan University. She has published numerous articles and books on children’s rights, child maltreatment, and developmental disabilities. She is actively involved both internationally and nationally. Professor Lee is a member of Executive Council of the International Society for the Prevention Child Abuse and Neglect; a member of the International Board of Trustees of the African Child Policy Forum; and Executive Board Member of UNICEF National Committee of Korea, and other Non Profit Organizations. She has found and is currently the President of the International Center for Child Rights as well as the Korean Association for Children with Disabilities. Professor Lee currently serves on the Advisory Committee of the National Human Rights Commission of Korea, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Ministry of Gender Equality. Currently, she heads the Committee on Women and Children Policy under the Ministry of Justice. Professor Lee has been appointed as the Vice-Chairperson of the National Unification Advisory Council in 2014. Additionally, in 2014, Professor Lee has been appointed as the first Korean to the position of UN Special Rapporteur of Myanmar.

She has served as Co-Guest Editor for 3 Special Issues of Child Abuse and Neglect Journal: November 2009; January, 2010; and December, 2011; and continues to serve as a member of its Editorial Board. She also served as Guest Editor for the International Journal of Children’s Rights Special Issue (Nov. 2010) and is currently a member of its Editorial Board as well as the Executive Council of the International Society of Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect.

Professor Lee has been the recipient of many recognitions and awards including the 2007 Year of the Woman Award (Korea) and the 2007 Sungkyun Family Award. She is the recipient of the 2009 Order of Civil Merit (Suk Ryu Medal), the highest recognition given to a civilian in South Korea, for her work in protecting and promoting the rights of children worldwide. In October 2011 she received Hyo Ryung Award for her dedication to children and their well-being.
