정철 박사는 미국 조지아공대(Georgia Tech) 경제학부 교수와 대외경제정책연구원(KIEP) 부원장을 거쳐 2024년 1월부터 한국경제인협회(FKI) 연구총괄대표 겸 한국경제연구원장으로 재직하고 있다. 현재 한국태평양경제협력위원회(KOPEC) 공동회장과 태평양무역개발회의(PAFTAD) 국제운영위원, 한국국제통상학회 수석 부회장으로도 활동하고 있다. 2007년부터 재직한 대외경제정책연구원에서는 부원장 및 원장직무대행, 무역통상본부장, 아시아태평양본부장, APEC　연구컨소시엄 사무국장과 East Asian Economic Review 편집위원장을 역임하였다. 2016년부터 2017년까지 역임한 산업통상자원부 장관 통상자문관을 비롯, 대통령 직속위원회와 기획재정부, 외교부 등 한국 정부 위원회에서 민간위원으로 활동하였다. 2009년부터 2012년까지 한국무역협회 수석이코노미스트로 미국 워싱턴에서 주미한국대사관 및 미국 상공회의소 등과 함께 한미FTA 비준을 위해 활동하였다. 주요 연구 분야인 국제무역과 경제통합(APEC 포함)에 관한 학술 논문과 정책연구 보고서를 집필하였다. 정철 원장은 서강대학교 경제학과를 졸업하고 미국 미시간 대학교에서 국제무역을 전공하여 경제학 박사학위를 받았다.

Chul CHUNG is currently President of the Korea Economic Research Institute (KERI) and Chief Research Officer (CRO) of the Federation of Korean Industries (FKI). He also serves as Co-Chair of the Korea National Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation (KOPEC). Before joining FKI and KERI, he served as Senior Vice President at the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP). In the government, Dr. Chung served as senior trade advisor to the Minister of Trade, Industry, and Energy (MOTIE), and as a committee member of various Ministries of the Korean government including Presidential Commission, MOSF, and MOFA. He also served as the editor-in-chief of the East Asian Economic Review and the Journal of International Trade and Industry Studies. Prior to joining KIEP, he taught international economics as a professor in the School of Economics at Georgia Tech in the United States. He has also held an adjunct professorship in the Graduate School of International Studies, Seoul National University and the KDI School of Public Policy and Management. While on leave from KIEP (2009-2012), Dr. Chung worked on the ratification of the Korea-US FTA as chief economist of the Korea International Trade Association (KITA) in Washington D.C. He has published numerous academic articles and policy research papers on international trade, economic geography, and regional economic integration including APEC studies. He received BA from Sogang University and Ph.D. in economics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
