Younghoon David Kim is Chairman and CEO of Daesung Group, one of Korea’s oldest energy conglomerates. In addition to its focus on energy, Daesung Group’s diversified business areas include private equity, capital management, value investment, communications, fashion, organic farming, and publishing.
As of October 2016 Mr. Kim will serve as the Chair of the World Energy Council (WEC) for a three-year term. In 2015 he served as the Co-Chair of the Organizing Committee for the World Water Forum and in 2013 as Co-Chair of World Energy Congress 2013 Organizing Committee.
He has received numerous awards, including: The Order of the Polar Star, from the government of Mongolia for contributions to improving relations between Korea and Mongolia (2008); The Bronze Tower Medal of Honor for the Energy Industry awarded by the President of Korea (2005); The Grand Prize for Social and Cultural Merits from the Japan Culture Promotion Association (2002); and the Grand Prix of the 1st Korea Management Awards for achievements in environment-friendly management (2002).
Mr. Kim received his Bachelor of Law degree from Seoul National University, Master of Comparative Law and Master of Business Administration degrees from the University of Michigan, in addition to a Master of Divinity (MDiv) from Harvard Divinity School.
