권오곤 변호사는 2001년부터 2016년까지 유엔의 유고슬라비아 국제형사재판소 (ICTY)의 상임재판관으로 근무했으며, 재직 중 보스니아 내전 당시 스릅스카 공화국의 대통령이었던 라도반 카라지치에 대한 재판을 재판장으로 진행하였고, 그 이전에는 세르비아 공화국 및 유고슬라비아 연방 대통령이었던 슬로보단 밀로셰비치에 대한 재판에 참여하였습니다.
귀국후에는 김앤장 법률사무소의 국제법연구소장으로 근무하고 있으며, 대한민국의 법관, 검사, 변호사 등 모든 법조인과 법학교수를 회원으로 하는 한국법학원의 원장직을 맡고 있습니다. 권 변호사는 또한 2017년 12월부터 네덜란드 헤이그에 있는 국제형사재판소 (ICC) 당사국총회 (Assembly of States Parties)의 의장으로 활동하고 있습니다.

Kwon is an attorney-at-law at Kim & Chang and serves as the President of the firm’s International Law Institute. Kwon is currently serving as the President of the Assembly of States Parties of the International Criminal Court (The Hague, the Netherlands) from December 2017. He is also serving as the President of the Korean Society of Law, which is the association of all jurists, i.e., judges, prosecutors, attorneys and law professors in Korea.
Previously, Kwon worked as one of the permanent judges of the UN’s International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) from November 2001 until March 2016. During his mandate at the ICTY, Kwon presided over the trial of former Bosnian Serb leader, Radovan Karadžić, and sat on the trial of Slobodan Milošević, former President of the Republic of Serbia and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
