서울국제포럼 The Seoul Forum for International Affairs(SFIA)

이화여대 국제대학원 교수(1997- )이며 원장을 역임했다. 현재 한국국제경제학회 회장이며, 한국경제연구원 원장(2011-2014), 국민경제자문회의 위원(2011-2013), 한국협상학회 회장(2007- 2008) 국제통상학회 회장(2017)을 지냈다. 통상교섭민간자문회의 위원, 남북관계발전위원회 위원, 외교통상부 정책자문위원, FTA국내대책위 민간위원을 지냈다.

대한민국 최초로 영어로 강의하는 국제학부를 2001년 이화여대에 창설하고 초대 학부장이 되었다. 이화여대 교수로 부임하기 전에는 통신분야의 국제협상가로 활동했다. 1992 년 타결된 한미통신협상, 우루과이라운드(1990-1993) Telecom Annex 협상, WTO 기본통신협상 한국측 수석대표(1994-1997)로 활동하면서 한국통신시장을 독점체제에서 개방과 경쟁체제로 전환시켜 IT Korea 의 초석을 쌓았다. APEC 회원국간의 정보통신격차를 해소하기 위한 APII(Asia Pacific Information Infrastructure)를 제안하였고, 이를 논의하기 위한 APEC 정보통신장관회의를 창설하는데 산파역할을 했고, 최초의 APEC 정보통신장관회의가 1995 년 서울에서 성공적으로 개최되는데 기여하였다.

한, 중, 일 공존의 가능성을 모색한 Northeast Asia in 2030: Forging Ahead or Drifting Away (2013), 한국경제 패러다임전의 비전을 제시한 1%에 사로잡힌 나라 (2014), 한미FTA 역전시나리오 (2006), 기로에 선 한미 FTA해법 (2009), 한국의 통상협상: 쌀에서부터 스크린쿼터까지 (2004) 등 대표 저서들이 있다. 서울대 경제학과를 졸업하고 Yale University에서 경제학 박사를 취득했다.

Dr. Choi is professor and the former Dean of the Graduate School of International Studies, Ewha Womans University. He is President for Korea International Economic Association. He was President of Korea Economic Research Institute, a think tank representing the Korean business sector, a member of National Economic Advisory Council, President of the Korea Association of Negotiation Studies, and President of the Korean Association of Trade and Industry Studies.

Prior to joining academia, he was the Korean chief negotiator for the WTO basic telecom negotiations (1994-1997), and trade negotiator for service agreement and the telecom annex at the Uruguay Round, the Korea-US telecom agreement, and the Korea-EU telecom agreement. He led the Korean initiative of the Asia-Pacific Information Infrastructure (APII) at the 1995 APEC Summit.

His book includes Northeast Asia in 2030: Forging Ahead or Drifting Away (2018), China, New Paradigm (2016), The KORUS FTA: Against the All Odds (2006), and The Success and Failure of Trade Negotiations of Korea (2004). He received B.A. from Seoul National University and Ph.D. economics from Yale.
