Young-Chang Joo is a Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and
Nano Flexible Device Materials Lab at Seoul National University. He is the Chair of the
Samsung Electronics Future Technology Research Committee and a Vice-Chairman of the
Korean Institute of Metals and Materials. He is also a member of the Competitiveness
Reinforcement Committee on Materials, Parts and Equipment, under the Ministry of Trade,
Industry and Energy, and the National Academy of Engineering of Korea. He also served as
the President of the Advanced Institute of Convergence Technology and an Outside Director
for LG Innotek. Recently, he served as the vice minister for Science, Technology, and
Innovation at the Korean Ministry of Science and ICT.
Professor Joo holds a Ph.D. in Electronic Materials from the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology (MIT) before joining the Max-Planck Institute for Metals Research in Stuttgart,
Germany, and Advanced Micro Devices, Inc (AMD) in California, USA. He received his B.S.
and M.S. degrees in Metallurgical Engineering from Seoul National University in 1987 and
1989, respectively.
