Aree Moon has been a Professor at the College of Pharmacy at Duk sung Women’s University since 1995. She holds a Ph.D. from the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics and Molecular Biology at Iowa State University in 1989 and was a postdoctoral fellow at KIST. She received a B.S. degree at the College of Pharmacy from Seoul National University in 1983.
Professor Moon is actively serving as the president of Korea Foundation for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology (WISET). She was also the 50th President, and Chairman of Directors of the Pharmaceutical Society of Korea from January 2017 to December 2018 and is currently in an Advisory Group-in-Chief. She also served as a Vice President of the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies and a member of the Government Performance Evaluation Committee. She received numerous awards including the Presidential Award, the Korean Order of Science and Technology Merit (Progress Class), the Order of Service Merit (Green Stripes) which are awarded by the President of South Korea and the Korea L’Oréal-UNESCO Award for Women in Science.
Her research interests lie in the areas of cancer studies, with a focus on the signaling of breast cancer progression, cell invasion and migration, and tumor microenvironment. She has published more than 120 peer-reviewed papers in academic journals, including The FASEB Journal, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Cancer Research, and Archives of Pharmacal Research. Additionally, she has been on the editorial boards of Journal of Molecular Signaling and the International Journal of Oncology.
