서울국제포럼 The Seoul Forum for International Affairs(SFIA)

신수정은 1956년 13세 때 모차르트 피아노 협주곡 제 20번을 해군교향악단(시향전신)과의 협연으로 데뷔하였다. 50여년의 연주 생활동안 그는 음악적 감수성과 화려한 피아니즘으로 언제나 청중에게 따뜻하고 깊이 있는 음악세계를 보여주었다. 또한 음악뿐만 아니라 다른 예술에 대한 폭넓은 이해는 우리 시대의 진정한 예술인이라 하겠다.

신수정은 서울대 음대를 수석 입학, 수석 졸업하였으며 제 1회 동아콩쿠르에서 수석 입상하였다. 1967년 빈 국립 아카데미 우등졸업, 1969년에는 서울대 음대 기악과 최연소 교수가 되었다. NHK 교향악단 첫 내한공연에 협연했으며, 코리안심포니 창단 연주회에서 협연하였다. 그는 KBS, 서울시향, 런던필, 도쿄필, 홍콩필, 베를린 챔버, 뮌헨 챔버 등과 협연했으며 야노스 슈타커, 루지에로 리치, 정경화, 정명화 등과 함께 연주하였다.

또한 뮌헨 ARD, 유니사, 더블린, 도쿄, 센다이, 하마마츠, 서울, 리즈 국제콩쿠르 등의 심사위원을 역임하였다. 경원대 음대 교수 및 학장을 역임하였고 2000년부터 정년까지 서울대 교수로 재직하였고 2005년에 서울대 음대 최초 여성학장으로 선출되었다 정년퇴임하였다. 현재 서울대 음대 초빙교수로 있으며 계속 활발한 연주 활동을 하고 있다. 2009년 대한민국 예술원 회원으로 선출되었다.

Soo-Jung SHIN received her musical training at the Seoul National University, the Vienna Academy of Music(Universitat fur Musik und darstellende Kunst in Wien) and the Peabody Conservatory of Music, Baltimore, U.S.A. Her teachers include Chung Jin-Woo, Josef Dichler, Leon Fleisher, Wilhelm Kempff and Maria Curzio Diamond. She won many prizes in music competitions including the Dong-A National Competition in Korea, the Elena Rombro Stepanow Competition in Vienna, the Deutsch Industrie Vanband Scholarship Competition among others. She was also awarded the Korean Academy of Arts Award.

She made her debut at the age of 13, playing Mozart Piano Concerto No. 20 with Navy Symphony Orchestra (Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, today)

She has performed with orchestras such as London Philharmonic, Tokyo Philharmonic, Seoul Philharmonic, KBS and NHK Symphony under the batons of Lim Won-Shik, Leon Fleisher, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Sir John Pritchard, Asahina Takashi, Iwaki Hiroyuki and others. She performed together with Ruggiero Ricci, Nicolai Gedda, Janos Starker, Chung Kyung Wha and others.

She has served as jury of international competitions including ARD, Seoul, Tokyo, Koln, UNISA, Dublin, Hamamamtsu, Sendai and Leeds International Music Competitions.

At the age of 26, she became the youngest faculty member at her alma mater, College of Music, School National University. She taught also at Seoul High School of Arts and Kyung Won University where she served as Dean of the School of Music. In 2000 she returned to Seoul National University, where she taught until her retirement in 2007. she was also elected as Dean of the College of Music, first woman in it’s history. In 2009, she was elected as member of the National Academy of Arts, Korea. She is chairperson of Great Mountain Music Festival & School’s Steering Committee and sharing her time with playing concerts, teaching, giving master classes, organizing piano seminars and serving as board member of Seoul Arts Center and others.
