클라크대교수 (1972-76), 버지니아주립대(콤몬웰쓰)종신교수 (1976-88), 서울대초빙교수 (1988-89), 대외경제정책연구원장, 이화여대 국제대학원장, 부총장 역임. APEC 저명인사 그룹 한국대표, 외교통상부 자문위원회 위원장, 국회예산정책처 자문위원회위원장, 한국선진화포럼 정책위원장, 한국경제학회장 역임. 국민경제자문회의 부의장을 거쳐 현재는 BBB Korea 회장으로 재직중.
