Dr. Chung Min Lee is Dean of the Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS) and the Underwood International College (UIC) at Yonsei University. From January 2010-January 2011 Dr. Lee served as the ROK’s Ambassador for International Security Affairs and from November 2008 until January 2011, as a member of the President’s Foreign Policy Advisory Council. Since April 2008, he has been a member of the Presidential Council on Future & Vision. He also serves as an advisor to various government ministries and agencies including the Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Unification, and the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly. Since April 2009, Dr. Lee has been a Senior Fellow for Asian Security at the International Institute for International Studies (IISS), the world’s premier security studies think tank. Dr. Lee has also held a number of administrative posts at Yonsei University including Director of International Education and Exchange (2000-2004) and Vice Dean of External Affairs (1998-2000).

Dr. Lee was a visiting professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore (2005-2007), a visiting professor at the Graduate Research Institute for Policy Studies, Tokyo (2004-2005), a policy analyst at the RAND Corporation (1995-1998), and a visiting research fellow at the National Institute for Defense Studies, Tokyo (1994-1995). Dr. Lee also served as a research fellow at the Sejong Institute, Seoul (1989-1994) and the Institute for Foreign Policy Analysis, Cambridge, Massachusetts (1985-1988).

Dr. Lee received his MALD and his Ph.D. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University in 1988 and his B.A. in political science from Yonsei University in 1982. For over twenty years, Dr. Lee has written extensively on various aspects of Asian security including strategic developments on the Korean peninsula and security challenges in East Asia. His research and interests include assessing key trends in international and Asian security affairs, WMD proliferation, crisis management, national security policy planning, defense technologies, and intelligence. He is a frequent commentator for the international media on Korean issues and contributes articles for various newspapers including the Wall Street Journal Asia.

Dr. Lee is a Korean national and has lived in nine countries including the United States, Germany, Uganda, Mexico, France, the Congo, Japan, Singapore, and Indonesia. He is bilingual in English and Korean and speaks fluent Spanish.
