1934년생. 서울대 법대, 에모리대, 예일대에서 수학. 서울대 교수, 사회과학 연구소장, 한국정치학회 회장, 통일원 장관, 대통령 정치 특보. 주영대사. 평통 수석부의장, 통일부총리, 국무총리, 15대 국회의원, 신한국당 대표. 주미대사 역임.
2002년 월드컵 유치 위원장.
현재 서울국제포럼, 동아시아연구원, 통영국제음악제 이사장, 중앙일보고문

Born in 1934. Educated at Seoul National, Emory, and Yale Universities. Taught Political Science at Seoul National University for twenty years. Between 1988 and 2000, served as Minister of Unification, Deputy Prime Minister, Prime Minister, Ambassador to the United Kingdom and the United States, member of the National Assembly, and Chairman of the New Korea Party. At present, Chairman of the Board for the Seoul Forum for International Affairs and the East Asian Institute, and Advisor to JoongAng IIbo.
