Born in 1934. Educated at Seoul National, Emory, and Yale Universities. Taught Political Science at Seoul National University for twenty years. Between 1988 and 2000, served as Minister of Unification, Deputy Prime Minister, Prime Minister, Ambassador to the United Kingdom and the United States, National Assembly member, and New Korea Party Chairman. At present, Honorary Chairman of the Board for the Seoul Forum for International Affairs and the East Asian Institute, and Advisor to JoongAng IIbo.
