Born in 1954, Dr. Hyun In-Taek was the Minister of Unification of the Republic of Korea from February 12, 2009 to September 19, 2011. Minister Hyun previously served on the Presidential Council for Future and Vision in 2008 and the Presidential Transition Committee for the 17th President of Korea, Lee Myung-bak.
Before his appointment as the Minister of Unification, Minister Hyun had led a distinguished academic career as a professor of political science and international relations at Korea University where he received his B.A. and M.A. He holds a Ph. D. in international relations from the University of California, Los Angeles. He had also long served as the director of the Ilmin International Relations Institute, one of Korea’s leading academic think tanks on international relations, and was a research fellow at the Sejong Institute, a prominent research institute on security and foreign affairs.
