Dr. Seok Hyun HONG is the chairman and CEO of JMnet (JoongAng Media Network), the largest media group in Korea, comprising newspapers, broadcasting, Internet and magazines. In addition to JoongAng Ilbo, Korea's most widely-read daily news publication, JMnet publishes five newspapers, including the IHT-JoongAng Daily, which is a collaboration with the International Herald Tribune. JMnet owns 25 media organizations in total, including three cable broadcasting channels, three Internet sites and twelve leading periodicals, such as Newsweek Korea and Forbes Korea.

He also has devoted his expertise to developing Korea's media. He served as president of the World Association of Newspapers from 2002 to 2005, and president of the Korea Association of Newspapers from 2003 to 2005.

During his career, Dr. Hong has been active in public service. He has worked at the World Bank from 1977 to 1983, and was also Senior Fellow at the Korea Development Institute in the 1980s. In 2005, he served as Korean ambassador to the United States.

Dr. Hong was born on October 20, 1949, and is a native of South Korea. He received his B.S. in electronics engineering from Seoul National University, his M.S. in industrial Engineering, and his Ph.D. in economics from Stanford University.
