I view your editorial on South Korea (September 19) as one of the fairer assessments of its new fiscal policy. With this rather bold fiscal stimulus package it is successfully avoiding the trap of doing “too little, too late” that led, for example, to the “two lost decades” in Japan. However, it cannot pay enough heed to ensuring that the money is spent timely for the right people and in the right place for maximum effect.
Fiscal policy can become even bolder, as and when deemed necessary. It can also be supported by monetary policy as the Bank of Korea still has a little room for a rate cut or two.
